The XX - Islands (Den5hion Remix)

Islands (den5hion remix) by den5hion

Working on a massive WMC blogpost from my time in Miami last week. Currently hooking up my youtube page with all the video I took down South. That probably won't be ready for a few more days so I leave you in the more than capable hands of Den5hion. I featured this dude on my It Came From The Cloud Volume Two and am loving the remixes he is banging out. I am a sucker for anything redone for The XX. This is one of the more interesting remixes with the latin inspired beats and accordion overlays.

The XX - VCR (FOUR TET REMIX)

The xx - VCR (Four Tet remix) by Four Tet

It looks like this week's theme is remixes by my favorite artist of my favorite artist. These two together make an amazing track. SBA has been big fans of The XX since their debut album dropped. I got excited when I saw that the one and only Four Tet was applying his spaced out minimal sounds to the ever growing English indie group. Four Tet's version of the song is allot faster than what I was expecting. The remix reminds me of something Latin (almost a spaced out salsa). In 13 hours it has already gotten 12,179 hits on Soundcloud! I hope you take the time to listen and add to that number.

Last night I stumbled upon this mix by Dj Baby Killah. I am glad I actually started to listen even though his dj name is a little ridiculous. If you like The XX then you will dig the remixes below. White Hinterland _ Icarus

This group has been climbing up the emusic charts so I decided to take a look at the description. Anything that is compared to The XX these days grabs my attention. I wouldn't say the comparison is close but I can see where they are coming from. White Hinterland IS an electronic group. They do have a female singer. The melodies are subdued and quiet in sound. Their sound is also unmistakable. Two days later the album is still growing on me. Here is one of my favorite traks Icarus:

The XX marks the spot

I go through a lot of music on a weekly basis. I have a bit of a problem, it is a form of musical A.D.D. Many bands don't last with me but when I heard The XX for the first time, they stopped me in my tracks.

The group is only made of four. One beat programmer, one rhythm guitarist, one lead singer on bass and one on guitar. Seems like a simple set up but they have a hell of a complex sound. The vocals play perfectly off each other and the guitars sound like they are playing games with each other. I find myself getting lost in their melancholy sound everywhere. The XX succeeds in what I think the ultimate goal is, to separate the listener from all the drama, pain, boredom, apathy, and stress, of their life and take them somewhere else.
