Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record

With each album they release, I can come to expect two things from Broken Social Scene. Terrific song writing and a live studio feel. One of the reasons I love the new album, "Forgiveness Rock Record" is because of this live studio feel. As a listener it sounds like you are hanging out in the studio listening to greatness being recorded in front of you. They always find a way to include external noise and even some times talking, to draw the listener into the music. Its that intimate connection that distinguishes these guys from the many other artists in the electronic/rock/pop genera. Your going to love the album when it is available on May 4th or to download it digitally on May 3rd. For now, enjoy some of my favorites...

TOBACCO

A few nights ago I heard this artist on my Nosaj Drift Pandora playlist and bought the album as an impulse. The track I heard was "Hairy Candy" and it made stop what I was doing and check the track. I was going to drop it here after this paragraph, but I found a sick version with Aesop rock mashed together with TOBACCO by the one and only hood Internet.



TOBACCO is from start to finish one of the more intriguing Trip Hop albums I have heard in a long time. I am only categorizing it as such because that is the most familiar sound that I can attach to it. Their 2008 release "Fucked up Friends" album starts with a swift punch in the face. The track Street Trash is dark, distorted, and beat heavy.



The album is filled with complex cosmic instrumentals that will have even the Hip Hop heads nodding their heads. After buying the album I learned that TOBACCO is an offshoot of Black Moth Super Rainbow. I find this very interesting because I never cared too much for BMSR's music but my love for "Fucked of Friends" will make me re-listen...

Vitalic - Flash Mob - My Ears have been opened again...

Just when I thought I had heard it all, a group called Vitalic comes out of nowhere to literally leave me speechless. My friend Ryan described this group as the bastard son of Justice and Lindstrom... I was immediately intrigued by that description and downloaded the new album "Flashmob. (mini-mix audio :)" I had just enough time to transfer it over to my phone before going to the hawks game.

The hawks game turned into a night at Filter with George Acosta. The George Acosta set turned into a late night with friends. Around 3:30 am I remembered the Vitalic download from earlier and had Chris throw it on the surround sound. The first track, "See the Sea" start of with a glitched out sequence before the grimy baseline rolls through the track. I looked at Chris, Chris looked at Jorge, and Jorge looked at me. All three of us were speechless. After the three minute mark, the track breaks into a classic italio disco breakdown. We couldn't stop from dancing and smiling. Each track was more surprising than the previous. I have thought long and hard about how to describe Vitalic since Friday night but one word keeps coming back into my head, "EPIC."
