"I love a good accent"

I have been debating whether to buy Scotland's Frightened Rabbit's second album "midnight organ fight" for a many month's now. Since that time they have come through atlanta with little fan fare. The played a small show at the Drunken Unicorn, which is unbelievable small venue. I had only heard Modern Leper off a South by Southwest Sampler CD. I should of gone.

Upon reading reviews of their latest live ablum that was released in October, "Liver! Lungs! FR!", I now know I made a huge mistake. This band is so great live. Almost every song gave me chills up my spin. Their lead singer Scott Hutchinson literally leaves his heart dripping from his sleeve. I love emusic's review. --

"Songs so emotionally ragged that carefully manicured studio versions could never be enough, Frightened Rabbit’s startling and heartwrenching Midnight Organ Fight gets a spirited, sweaty reworking in the live setting. This is how the songs were meant to be heard: wrenching and yearning, falling apart but desperately trying to keep it together. “I Feel Better” gets cooled down, beats removed, guitars unplugged, bleary organ running through the background. “Good Arms Vs. Bad Arms” is more affecting than ever, volume dropped but emotions still running high. And though the album title references the two organs most likely ruined on the road, it omits the one that’s always front and center in Frightened Rabbit’s songs: the heart."

So basically, don't make the same mistake that I did. Take the oportunity to see an amazing band that is comming very soon to you, unfortunately they aren't coming near me...

"Cookie Breathe” Helps Win Project Runway Season 5

Leanne Marshall told her boyfriend Nathan McKee that if she had the chance to show her collection in Bryant Park, he would compose the music for her. For those who didn’t see the finally, Leanne had the most intriguing and interesting of designs to walk down the runway. She also had the most interesting music of the three finalists.

Leanne described her collection as something that was forward thinking and innovative. The fact that she used half of her materials from sustainable resources just reaffirms this thought. Here choice in music was a major step toward the forward thinking and innovation theme. I really believe that song choice played a role in the judge’s decisions.

You have to remember that the runway is a show. The success of a show is mainly based on the reaction the crowd gets from the clothing. Do the pieces create feeling and excitement? A great track can also generate that same excitement. When the first piece walked down the runway, I saw clothes in a style that I had never seen before. With the music selection, everyone in Bryant Park was hearing something that no one, other than Leanne and Nathan, had ever heard before.

Upon hearing the track I thought it was a mix between a glitch artist like The Books and possibly Mr Scruff based on the fun, organic, and glitchy composition. The uniqueness of the sound matched the one of a kind petal design that Leanne produced. Who would of thought that “Cookie Breathe” helped Leanne win Project Runway?

In search of The Ting Tings (OCT 24)

I am a fan of The Ting Tings. I first heard this duo's cd in Charlotte NC a month ago. Katie White and Jules De Martino will be coming to Atlanta all the way from Manchester, England. I have always wondered what a Ting Ting is. I did a little googling today and it brought me here. I decided to go to their webpage for a better definition.

Here I found it, -- At the time, Katie was working in a boutique with a Chinese girl called "Ting Ting," which is also Mandarin term for a "band stand". "I thought it was lovely," Katie remembers. "It can also refer to the sound of innovation or an open mind. Like the 'ting' you hear when you get an idea."

What a perfect description. Each song has it's own idea. Every song is a 'ting' with a spin and twist. You may not like every song but there is enough diversity for everyone. Check them out at the Variety Playhouse on Friday or for a sample you can here them here:
