Mighty Fools - That's the Shit Mixtape 2010

This morning wasn't good. You know sometimes when you get a full night sleep but wake up dead tired anyways. That was me. Now fast forward two hours and my day has completely changed. Not only is it Friday but I just found the new Mighty Fools Mixtape! To make things better... You can actually download this one here. There isn't a dj group that makes more fun music. LazerProof Mixtape

I know I went on a rant about how I don't like most of La Roux's music but did point out that she is brilliant when remixed by other artist. Diplo must of been reading my mind. This is the perfect collaboration for her. Look at what Diplo has done to the popularity of MIA and Santagold alike. I haven't had a chance to download but thought I would take this lunch break to spread the Major Lazer / La Roux love...

I was an Optimist and it paid off

To tell you truth, I was a little worried when I heard The New Young Pony Clubs newest release three weeks ago. Everything was so different. I was expecting a dancy / high speed / fun LP like the last release. The Optimist first single "Lost a Girl" embodies everything that I have come to love about this group. This is what I was expecting from the group.

By the time you get three songs in you start seeing a different side of the band. The title track, "The Optimist" has a very Joy Division-esk running bass line that drones along to a very meloncoly sounding New Young Pony Club. Saxiphones sporkatically overlay multiple vocal layers. I don't remember this sound ever.

I was so excited to bring raving reviews of The Optimist to the blog but wasn't quiet sure I even like the shift in music. Sitting in my brother apartment overlooking the beautiful Vancouver, the Optimism payed off. It took me multiple listens to the new album to realize the difference. They got away from making fun dance tracks and starting making music. That isn't supposed to be a dis to the band or artist specifically in dance music. But it is shift from emphasis on beat to equal emphasis on every element of their music. It sounds so cliche to say they grew up but I am absolutely loving the maturity that is happening to The New Young Pony Club right now.

The Optimist

They still know how to create dance music though

Fare Soldi drop another hot Mixtape

Download it here:

Interview and Mix preview

Last Year I found out about Fare Soldi with the Capri Sonne Mix right before summer started to heat up. This year they dropped another crazy mix for Scion as the weather begins to turn. They are a little hard to describe in terms of genera. One thing you will find in each mix is a good amount of fun-disco-goodness or in their words "This strange blend makes what we call “Frico Disco”, a kind of sweaty heavy greasy disco music." Throw in multiple insane remixes (see ace of bass mash up at the 15 minute mark right into A-Traks Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Heads will Roll" banger - WHAT THE HELL<<<) and you got a classic Fare Soldi summer mixtape...

Enjoy :)

Gravite by Renaud Hallee

Goes to show you that beats can be made from anything. One of the coolest videos I have seen in 2010...

Copy ... Three years late

I will admit that I have been totally sleeping on this group. I heard Copy pop up in Pandora stream and I was immediately interested. When I did some research on "Hair Guitar" I saw that this album came out in 2007. I decided that three years was way too long already and downloaded it immediately. I really am enjoying the stripped down electronic sound that builds on layers and layers of synths. This was too good to keep to myself. I wanted to share some of the good tunes... Enjoy

HipGnosis - Blindfold Estatic Mix

I just saw HipGnosis new Mixtape come across the Twitter wire. I am 10 minutes in and I already know this is going to be a hot one. Anytime you start a mix with a Portishead remix; my attention will be instantly grabbed. Follow it with a creeped out/dubstep/downtempo Britany Spears Toxic Remix and I am sold.

Some of you long time SBA readers may remember that HipGnosis was my first official interview. I have been a fan of his music ever since. If you like the tunes below, make sure you check him out Wednesday Nights 10-12pm central on Glitch.Fm or check out his soundcloud page for a complete archive of radio sessions...

The Juan MacLean kicks it

As you may or may not know I am a bit of a mixtape junkie. I think it is the perfect way to hear new artist and get free music at the same time. The Mix Album, like Juan Maclean's Dj Kicks, is the pinnacle of the mix genera. If you are going to pay money to hear a dj spin, it better be flawless and perfectly produced. TJM latest DJ Kicks is both. Its a must have this summer for the disco/electro/house heads out there... And an added Bonus is the single released and mixed in "Feel so Good."
